Welcome to English 100:
A Web Site for Your Class
English 100 has always been one of my
favorite courses because it doesn't try to do everything for
everybody. It is narrowly focused. Its singular goal is to help students
improve as writers so
they will be writing at least at a C or better level at the beginning of the next writing course, English 110: College
Writing. It's that simple. You complete the assignments at a level
that would be passing or better in English 110, and you will pass this course.
Sometimes that involves a lot of writing and rewriting, editing and
revising.
Like English 110
The assignments in this course are the same as or similar to the
assignments students have in English 110. In fact, I like to think this
course is training or rehearsal for the main event or the real
performance--English 110. In English 100 you will learn how to write
college level assignments, correct errors, and become an overall better
writer. I will be like a coach, a director, or a mentor. I will be working
with you.
Pass-Only
Grade
Please note that this course is graded only Pass/No
Credit. That means you get five credit hours when you pass. You
also go on to English 110. You get
no credit hours if you don't pass. You also don't go on to English 110. Your grade point is not affected,
either way.
When I am not reading your papers, I
also like to get outdoors and rock
climb, or take pictures and enjoy quiet moments, like the one in the
picture below with Rocky Mountain Goat in Montana's Glacier National
Park. If you would like to read "The Goat Story," click on the
picture.

Enough of this. I know you're interested
in what you will have to do in the class, so let's keep moving.
