Welcome to English 101 Online
College Writing or its equivalent
under a variety of names and numbers is one course almost all
college students have to take. It is a kind of performance class. If
you take and pass English 101, College Writing, the college is saying
that you have many of the skills and tools you will need to succeed
in your other college level writing assignments.
As your teacher, I want you to
leave the class prepared for most kinds of writing in and out of
school, recognizing different styles and where e a paper that will
get a good grade and that you will be proud of. Most of you will
take another writing course that will
refine your skills. This course will give you a good foundation for
that course. each is
appropriate. I want you to know how to present a paper that is
clearly expressed, well organized, and free from common errors. You
will learn how to incorporate the works of others into your writing
and give them credit. In short, I want you to leave the class able
to writ
Like English 100
Some of you may have taken my English 100 course in the
classroom. Either way, much of this will be familiar. The assignments in this course are
similar to the
assignments in English 100. That is intentional. The
assignments in English 101 are similar but a little more demanding. There is more
emphasis on expression, and there should be less emphasis on mechanics. And as I do
in English 100, I will continue to work with you, like a coach, a director, or a mentor.
Graded class
Please note that this course, unlike English 100, is graded. The grading
system is explained in detail in the course description. Please, if you
decide this class is not for you, formally withdraw. If you do not
officially withdraw, you will receive a 0.0 grade. Five credits of 0.0
can have
devastating impact on your g.p.a.
If you are wondering who will be
reading your papers, in the picture below, I am enjoying a dive in
the Sea of Cortez, Baja Sur, Mexico. The photos on this web
site are of places I enjoy spending time and of things I enjoy
photographing. I also think they look
better than catalog clip art found on some websites.
